How to Remove Nail Polish Stains
Step 1:
If the spill is fresh use a spoon or dull knife to carefully scrape the polish from the carpet. Do
not cause too much friction.
Step 2:
Make a Dawn-Water solution by pouring 1 cup of warm water and 1/4 of a teaspoon of Dawn
dishwashing detergent in to a spray bottle or container. Stir or gently shake to ensure a
thorough mixture.
Step 3:
Dampen a clean white cloth with pure clear nail polish remover. Test the remover in an
inconspicuous spot of the carpet (we recommend a closet area) to make sure the remover will
not damage the carpet. If there is no damage, begin blotting the stain. Be patient, this may
take some time.
NorCal Pro Tip: Blot the stain in one direction starting from the edge of the stain working your way to the center. This will prevent spreading the stain onto other carpet fibers.
Step 4:
Remove the polish remover with Dawn-Water solution you made in step 2. Dampen a clean
white cloth and blot the stain to work the solution into the carpet fibers.
Step 5:
Rinse area with water, be sure not to over saturate the carpet. Use plain white paper towels to
remove the excess moisture.
Step 6:
Layer several paper towels on the damp area and place a small heavy object on the towels.
Leave for 2-4 hours. This will draw out any remaining moisture in the carpet.
Step 7:
Once the area is completely dry vacuum to restore the carpet’s resiliency
