How to Remove Tar Stains
Step 1:
Make a Dawn-Water Solution by pouring a cup of warm water and 1/8 of a teaspoon in a
spray bottle or container. Stir or gently shake to ensure a thorough mixture of the solution.
Step 2:
Use a spoon or dull knife to carefully scrape away an excess tar from the carpet.
Step 3:
Dampen a clean white cloth with isopropyl rubbing alcohol or WD40. Blot the stain to work the
rubbing alcohol or WD40 down into the carpet fibers to transfer the stain to the white cloth. Be
patient, this may take some time. Once you see that the stain is no longer transferring to the
cloth, continue to step 4.
Step 4:
With what remains of the stain, use the Dawn-Water solution you made in step 1 and dampen a
clean white cloth. Blot the stain until the stain is removed.
Step 5:
Rinse by spraying water onto the damp area to remove the solution and rubbing alcohol or
WD40 from the carpet. Blot with plain white paper towels.
Step 6:
Layer several paper towels on the damp carpet and place a small heavy object on the paper
towels leave it for 2-4 hours. This will draw out any remaining moisture left in the carpet.
Step 7:
Once the carpet has dried, vacuum the area to restore the carpet’s resiliency
